“Friend Cards” are Cool

My friends Leah and Mark (of LeahAndMark.com fame) perfectly and effectively designed and implemented their own “Friend Cards.” You might be asking, “What’s a friend card? ” Well, I’m glad you asked.  A “Friend Card” is actually an idea that probably has been used my lots of other people in slightly different ways (for slightly different purposes) for years.  As a matter of fact, I thought I had an original idea when I first decided to make mine.  Somehow without me even telling them about it, Leah and Mark made their own version and passed them out all over China during a trip there a few weeks months ago.  That’s when I realized that I wasn’t the first person to think of it (check out their design on their blog).

Anyway, back to the original question… “Friend Cards” are simply business cards with your contact information on them (name, email, website, and phone number… well, maybe not always your phone number) that you give out to interesting people that you meet.  Their idea of passing them out in China was great because they met lots of cool people that they probably won’t see again, but wanted to stay in touch with (and their new friends can learn about them through their website).

I recently made some of my own.  It was pretty easy to do and I was able to print a unique image on the back of each one, making them that much more special to the recipient.  Here’s how mine turned out:

What do you think?  Again, they were easy to make.  I used MOO.com to design them using images from my flickr account, but there are other places to print them, so don’t limit yourself.

Do you have a Friend Card? How can I get one? I give mine out to people that I meet at the bar that I wouldn’t normally exchange contact information with (they also work as a way to exchange info with more interesting people, like friends and/or someone you might be intersted in).  Feel free to share yours in our comments.

  1. Cool. Friend cards are just such a good idea for initial networking/friend making - especially since you don’t have to give out phone numbers and other real contact info. - but yeah, it also just enables you to take a ‘chance’ on more people as acquaintances/friends since all the pressure is off.

Yours look good. We just ordered some from Moo also… and will get them, eventually.

  2. They look awesome David! It’s a great idea and they are pretty useful! Hopefully, I will join y’all and get friend cards for myself!
